The Mayhem 3.0 is a completely new template. The trend in modern high performance shortboards is towards more curve under the back foot for critical surfing in the pocket. We felt the need to develop a fin for this board rocker. We wanted a bit more base, more rake and a narrower tip than our longtime thruster template.
The idea with the base and rake, is more drag and bite when diving deep into turns and maintaining drive through tight radius turns. The reduced tip area with tapered flex provides more release and freedom for quick transitions in and out of turns. We took this fin to the wave pools for controlled, repeatable testing and also worked with our crew of elite surfers of various sizes to get feedback and input.
